Small RSS logos, similar to the one you can see to the left of this page are popping up on all sorts of web sites. Many of the larger well known sites already have them and you might be wondering what their benefit is and what they might do for your own site or business.

Typically, RSS is considered a great way to increase the amount of relevant content on a web site. For example, if your business is selling motor bikes, you might have a news section where you syndicate all of the related news to motor bikes. The benefit to your visitors is that you are providing them with regularly updated information that is pertinent to their interests. The benefit for the web site owner is that it reduces the time required to serve up interesting content.

The next stage is even better; by offering an RSS feed on your site you are providing an opportunity for people with similar interests to your own to syndicate your content. This works great if you are a news or content driven business, however it less clear how to benefit if you’re an e-commerce site for example.

We at Generate UK, were recently engaged to work on an e-commerce site, we set our client’s site up, created a solid pay per click campaign and optimised their web site for the search engines. We also wanted to see how we could incorporate RSS feeds into their marketing plan. One way that we identified was to encourage their customers to review their products. These reviews, were collected as a section in their blog and syndicated.

We then started to optimise their RSS feed, this is an important step. You need to track the number of readers, establish who is reading and encourage users to add your feed. You then have a readership of interested parties finding out about how good your customers are saying you are. It’s the perfect referral system for the digital age.

Good thing found at your blog about email marketing! Welldone! You have placed a good information on your blog. But, I want to talk something more about email marketing. Actually, it is not too easy as it seems. Most of the people are under misconception that collecting email IDs and using a bulk email sender can make you successful. But it is not. What do you think? Actually, most of the businesses these days are not selling one product. They are selling different products for diff. niches and for the different markets. So, in this case they should have the different lists of bulk email IDs. Email Marketing is being difficult in these days. But still experiments are being done by a lot of people and companies. I usually keep on trying the products of the different companies. Now a days, some wonderful products are coming in the market that can give you great earning opportunities. I do not want my comment considered as spam here so will not discuss about my blog, but if you visit my blog then you will find, how I am using different products for my email marketing these days and making a lot Really! When I found your blog about email marketing, It was great one and I could not stop myself writing comment? But, last thing, I want to ask, Do you offer newsletter to your visitors or not? Do you know any kind of program to make effective newsletter? Waiting for reply - Thanks - Regards

Mike:

Hello, thanks for commenting on our blog. You raise some interesting questions… I agree that just collecting a list of emails and sending them out willy nilly is not the way to make the most of email marketing. We talk to our customers about having smaller, targeted lists, which allow them to provide them with messages/information that relate to them. Email marketing in my mind is about grouping your email lists and carefully selecting what information you send to them.

Yes, we do offer a newsletter to our visitors. Although, we do try to keep it open to people we work with or are talking to. We’d prefer to have a smaller more focused list for our newsletter.

Best wishes,
Mike
